Realisation competition – Dachauer Straße, Munich

Objektbeschreibung

The municipal housing company GEWOFAG Wohnen GmbH based in Munich, is planning to improve the inner-city housing complex “Max II” built by the company in Munich in the 1950s and 1960s. The measure will involve construction of noise protection structures along the busy Dachauer Straße and addition of a building towards the rear. This will create a floor area of at least 6,900 m² for use as subsidised rented apartments and accommodation for apprentices on the 15,000 m² planning site, while taking into account relevant building and planning regulations. The current above-ground parking facilities are to be replaced by underground parking areas.

The new buildings are intended to be high-quality additions to the existing housing complex “Max II”, blend with the general character of the area and make an important contribution to protection from emissions of heavy traffic on the Dachauer Straße. In the south of the planning site, a new residential building is to be built on the current parking area adjacent to Heldstraße.

Structural and open space development is required to meet high standards as far as usability, design quality and economic efficiency are concerned. The initiators of the competition requested in particular that the design of the side facing Dachauer Straße should be suitably attractive to fulfil its function as a calling card for the entire housing complex.
The thirteen architectural firms invited to participate in the realisation competition, were selected by means of an official award procedure (Vergabeordnung für freiberufliche Leistungen-Verfahren – VOF-V) in line with which the realisation competition was conducted. Entries were evaluated according to criteria including design quality, sustainability, energy efficiency, cost effectiveness, capacity for funding and realisability.
